Lori Gottlieb's Handmade Curly Bark Dangle NeccklaceOur new Featured Jewelry Artist this month is Lori Gottlieb. Lori took a detour as a surgeon before failing eyesight led her to explore a lifelong interest in the arts. Working with her hands as a surgeon gave her the necessary skills to become a jeweler – a natural extension of her interests -- and the ability to work at the time of day when her eyesight was clearest provided her with the opportunity.

Lori Gottlieb's Handmade Teardrop Necklace

Over time Lori learned to embrace her disability. Avoiding straight lines she creates pieces that move in tandem with the body. She doesn't intend to execute a perfectly straight line or capture a flower exactly as it blooms. She intends to be representational. Everything she does has some kind of movement or curves.

Lori’s lyrical jewelry is inspired by the world she explores on long bicycle trips. She enjoys the curves in the road and the sinuous path of rivers and streams. According to Lori, a little camera in her head captures the images as she passes by, a little out of focus with blurry edges. Her jewelry is a precisely imprecise reflection of the world around her.
