Welcome Anticlastic Jewelry Artist Nancy Linkin

We are very pleased to welcome anticlastic jewelry artist Nancy Linkin to Artners Gallery. She truly embodies our motto “ jewelry with a difference”. Nancy’s passion for metalsmithing began over 40 years ago when she was captivated by the process of forming metal directly with hammers. Initially she explored the traditional smithing techniques, raising hollowware and forging, but soon she pushed herself both technically and visually and began to create asymmetrical sculptures and wall pieces. From there it was a short step to taking the sculpture off the pedestal and putting it on the body.

Over time Nancy perfected the art of anticlastic raising to make beautiful sculptural jewelry. To create her miniature art pieces, flat patterns are cut from sheets of gold and silver and hammered systematically over specialized tools. Once a piece is hammered into its final form, it is filed, sanded, and finally buffed to a high polish. The fine finish accentuates the simple sculptural lines of her modern jewelry. More recently Nancy made her art jewelry available in bronze with a rich heat patina, reminiscent of her bronze sculptures.

Nancy’s studio is in coastal Maine, surrounded by a lovely perennial garden and lush Maine woods, rich in the natural forms that inspire the fluid grace found in her work. Undulating curves and hoops underlie her work. Nancy has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston) and a Master of Fine Arts from Washington University (St. Louis). She also studied under Heikki Seppa and Michael Good, and later worked with Michael Good in Maine for five years. According to Nancy, the essential quality of her work is harmony of form. Her passion, her life agenda, is to bring beauty to the world and to the lives of others.
